أكدت منظمة الصحة العالمية، أن تفشي جدري القردة لا يزال يمثل حالة طوارئ صحية عامة.
وعقدت لجنة الطوارئ بالمنظمة اجتماعا أول أمس قررت خلاله، أن الزيادة الكبيرة في إصابات جدري القردة حالة طوارئ صحية عامة تثير قلقا دوليا، موضحة أن قرارها يستند إلى تزايد أعداد الإصابات واستمرار تفشي الحالات في منطقة جغرافية، بالإضافة إلى التحديات العملياتية في الميدان والحاجة إلى استجابة منسقة ومستدامة على مستوى الدول والشركاء.
ونوهت المنظمة إلى أنه يشتبه في إصابة أزيد من 46 ألف شخص هذا العام في أنحاء إفريقيا، وبشكل رئيسي في الكونغو، بالإضافة إلى الاشتباه في وفاة ما يزيد على ألف شخص، وسط تأكيدات عن وجود حالات إصابة بالسلالة الفرعية (كليد 1ب) في بريطانيا وألمانيا والسويد والهند وغيرها.
وكانت منظمة الصحة العالمية قد أعلنت لأول مرة حالة الطوارئ في غشت الماضي، حينما حدث تفش لسلالة فرعية جديدة من جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية المتضررة بشدة من الفيروس إلى دول مجاورة، لاسيما أنه يمكن لجدري القردة الانتقال عبر المخالطة، وقد يؤدي المرض إلى الوفاة، لكن أعراضه عادة ما تكون معتدلة، ويسبب أعراضا أشبه بأعراض الإنفلونزا وبثورا في الجسد.
وبعد أن واجهت المنظمة انتقادات بسبب تباطؤها في إقرار اللقاحات، أقرت في شهر شتنبر الماضي لقاح شركة بافاريان نورديك لجدري القردة.
