يعد ارتفاع الكوليسترول من المشكلات الصحية الشائعة، وقد يسبب مضاعفات خطيرة إذا لم يُراقب بشكل صحيح.
ويمكن للطبيب العام أو أخصائي الرعاية الصحية تقييم مستويات الدهون في الدم من خلال فحص بسيط، ما يساعد في اتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة.

ولمكافحة الكوليسترول الضار، تلعب الألياف دورا مهما، لا سيما الألياف القابلة للذوبان مثل “بيتا غلوكان” الموجودة في الشوفان. وتتحول هذه الألياف إلى مادة هلامية داخل الأمعاء تمنع امتصاص الكوليسترول، ما يساعد في خفض مستوياته.
ويعتبر الشوفان خيارا مثاليا لوجبة الفطور، سواء منقوعا في الحليب البارد مع الفاكهة أو على شكل عصيدة دافئة في الشتاء، كما يمكن دمجه في وصفات صحية متنوعة. ويُتوفر الشوفان بأشكال متعددة، مثل الحبوب الكاملة أو دقيق الشوفان، وكلها مفيدة للصحة.
وأكدت مؤسسة القلب البريطانية أن تناول 3 غرامات من الشوفان يوميا يساهم في الحفاظ على مستويات صحية من الكوليسترول، حيث يوفر وعاء عصيدة يحتوي على 40 غراما من الشوفان حوالي 1.4 غرام من “بيتا غلوكان”. لذا يُنصح بتناول حصتين إلى 3 حصص من أطعمة الشوفان أو الشعير يوميا.
وإلى جانب تحسين صحة القلب، يرتبط تناول الألياف الكافية أيضا بخفض خطر الإصابة بمرض السكري من النوع الثاني، ما يجعلها جزءا مهما من النظام الغذائي الصحي.
ومع ذلك، هناك نوع وراثي من البروتين الناقل للكوليسترول يسمى البروتين الدهني أ (Lp(a))، لا يتأثر بالنظام الغذائي أو بتناول الألياف مثل الشوفان والشعير، ويظل ارتفاعه مرتبطا بالوراثة.
