اهتزت مدينة الجديدة على وقع حادث مروع في الساعات الأولى من صباح اليوم، حيث انفجرت باخرة بشكل مفاجئ قرب سواحل الجرف الأصفر. مما أسفر عن مقتل سبعة أشخاص وإصابة ثمانية آخرين بجروح خطيرة.
ووفقاً للتقارير الأولية، فقد كانت الباخرة في طريقها إلى ميناء الجرف الأصفر لتحميل شحنة من أسمدة الفوسفاط المغربي، قبل أن يشب حريق هائل بمحرك الباخرة، مما أدى إلى اندلاع الانفجار الذي أسفر عن تدمير جزء كبير من الباخرة وتعريض حياة الطاقم للخطر.
وأوردت ذات المصادر أنه تمت الاستعانة بطائرتي هيليكوبتر لإنقاذ المصابين داخل الباخرة الأجنبية، ونقل الجرحى إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاجات الضرورية.
